Following Jesus · Part 3 of 40 · 2 min

Jesus’ First Followers

John was standing with two of his followers when he saw Jesus passing. He pointed them toward Jesus, the One he had been preparing them to meet.

The two men followed Jesus along the path.

Jesus turned and asked what they were looking for. They wanted to know where he was staying.

He invited them to come and see. They stayed with him that day and listened.

“Come and see.”

Andrew was one of those men. He could not keep his joy to himself. He found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus.

Jesus welcomed the people who came to know him.
Jesus welcomed the people who came to know him.

Jesus knew Simon and gave him the name Peter.

Later Jesus called Philip to follow him. Philip found Nathanael and told him about Jesus.

Nathanael had questions. Philip did not argue with him. He invited him to come and see for himself.

Jesus welcomed Nathanael too. Their meeting helped Nathanael recognize who Jesus was.

These first friends did not understand everything at once. They began by coming close, listening, and spending time with Jesus.

We can share something good without pushing another person. A kind invitation makes room for questions and lets a friendship begin.
