Peter Recognizes Jesus
Jesus and his disciples were near Caesarea Philippi. During their time together, he asked what people were saying about him.
Some thought he was John the Baptist. Others thought he was Elijah or another prophet.
Then Jesus asked his own friends who they believed he was.
The disciples listened carefully.
Peter answered that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
He was not simply another teacher. Peter was beginning to recognize the One God had promised.

Jesus explained that Peter had received this understanding from the Father. He spoke about building his church, a people who would belong to him.
Peter had spoken with confidence, but he still had much to learn. Soon Jesus would explain that his mission included suffering, death, and rising again.
The friends continued their journey together.
Following Jesus meant learning his way, even when it differed from their expectations.
We may hear many opinions about someone. Taking time to know that person helps us understand more than a rumor can tell us.
We can keep learning about Jesus through the Bible, prayer, and the kindness he asks us to share.
