A Mother Who Kept Trusting

Jesus came to a region near Tyre and Sidon. A mother came looking for him because her daughter was suffering greatly.

She was a Canaanite woman, from a people many Jewish people looked down on. But she had heard about Jesus' help, and she had hope.

The mother asked Jesus to help her daughter.

At first, she seemed not to receive the answer she hoped for. The disciples wanted her to go away because she kept asking for help.

But she continued to come near. She knelt down and explained her need.

A mother asks Jesus for help beside a path.
The mother brought her daughter's need to Jesus.

Jesus spoke with her using a comparison about the children's bread. The woman replied that even crumbs falling from a table could provide food.

She trusted that Jesus' kindness could reach her family too.

Then Jesus recognized her great trust and told her she would receive the help she asked for.

Her daughter was made well.

When the mother returned home, she found her daughter peaceful and free from that suffering.

The mother found her daughter well again.

We can learn to welcome someone who speaks another language, comes from another country, or has different customs.

People do not have to be like us to deserve respect. We can listen, invite them to join us, and share without making fun of them.

This story helps us look beyond differences and notice the person who needs kindness.

Jesus cares and helps, and we can share his kindness.
