Jonah and the Great Fish

A story about listening, trusting, and beginning again

Long ago, God spoke to a man named Jonah. He asked Jonah to travel to the great city of Nineveh and take an important message there.

But Jonah was afraid and decided to go in the opposite direction. He walked to the harbor, heard his footsteps on the dock, and boarded a ship that was leaving for a faraway place.

While they were sailing, a very strong wind arose. The sea roared, the rain fell, and a great storm shook the ship. The sailors were frightened.

Jonah understood that he had run away from what God had asked him to do. He told the sailors to throw him into the sea. When they did, the waves grew calm and everything became quiet.

Then God sent a great fish to protect Jonah. The fish swallowed him, and Jonah remained inside it for three days and three nights.

In that darkness, Jonah prayed. He thanked God for caring for him and promised to listen. God heard his prayer and commanded the great fish to leave Jonah safe and sound on the shore.

This time, Jonah went to Nineveh. He delivered God's message, and the people of the city decided to change the way they lived. God forgave them and gave them a new beginning.

Jonah learned that no one can go so far that they are beyond God's love. Beneath the stars, he understood that God's mercy is great and reaches everyone.
