Jesus Is Baptized

People came to the Jordan River to listen to John. He asked them to turn away from wrong choices and prepare to welcome the One God was sending.

One day Jesus came from Galilee. He wanted John to baptize him.

The river water moved around them.

John was surprised. He knew Jesus was greater than he was. But Jesus explained that this was the right thing for them to do.

John baptized Jesus, and Jesus came up from the water.

The heavens opened. The Spirit of God descended like a dove and rested on Jesus.

A voice from heaven said that Jesus was God's beloved Son and that God was pleased with him.

“This is my beloved Son. I am pleased with him.”

Jesus was beginning his work among the people. He would teach, help, and show them the Father's love.

John had prepared the way, but now the people could look to Jesus himself.

Baptism helps us remember that belonging to God is a beginning. We can learn to listen, ask questions, and follow Jesus as we grow.

God's love is not a prize for being the tallest or cleverest. He welcomes us to trust him and walk in his care.
