Following Jesus · Part 34 of 40 · 3 min

The Tomb Is Empty!

Early on the first day of the week, women went to the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They carried spices and expected to find his body.

Their footsteps followed the path to the tomb.

But God had done something wonderful. Jesus had risen from the dead!

An angel had come, and the stone had been rolled away. The tomb was open.

The angel told the women not to be afraid. Jesus, who had been crucified, was not there. He had risen, just as he had said.

“He is not here. He has risen!”

The women discovered that Jesus' tomb was empty.
The women discovered that Jesus' tomb was empty.

They were invited to see the place where he had lain. Then they were told to go quickly and tell his disciples.

Their sorrow was turning into wonder and joy. Death had not been able to hold Jesus.

Morning birds sang near the garden.

The women hurried away with the news. Jesus was alive, and his friends needed to hear it.

The resurrection gives Christians hope. Jesus' love is stronger than death, and his promises can be trusted.

We can share good news with kindness and remember that a sad chapter does not always tell the whole story. At the empty tomb, a new morning had begun.

Retelling of Matthew 28:1–10.
