Jesus Rests in the Tomb

After Jesus died, a man named Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate. He asked permission to care for Jesus' body.

Joseph had not agreed with the decision to condemn him. Now he showed his love in a quiet, practical way.

He wrapped Jesus' body in linen cloth.

Joseph placed him in a new tomb cut into the rock. It was a place where no one had been buried before.

The women who had followed Jesus watched. They saw where he was laid.

Jesus' friends cared for him and remembered where the tomb was.
Jesus' friends cared for him and remembered where the tomb was.

A large stone closed the entrance of the tomb.

The friends left with heavy hearts. They had loved Jesus and had hoped for so much.

The Sabbath was about to begin. The women prepared spices and then rested, following God's commandment.

For them, the future was difficult to understand. They did not yet see the joy that would come after their sorrow.

Love can be shown quietly. Joseph's courage and the women's care mattered on a day when there was little they could change.

When someone is grieving, we can stay nearby, listen, and offer simple help. We do not need perfect words to show that we care.

The closed tomb was not the end of Jesus' story.

Retelling of Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38–42.
