A Hand Touched His Cloak

A woman had been ill for twelve years. She had looked for help and spent what she had, but she was still suffering.

One day she heard about Jesus. Hope grew in her heart. She wanted to come near him.

Many people surrounded him. The woman moved through the crowd, hoping nobody would notice her.

She believed that if she could touch his clothing, she could be made well.

The woman came near and touched the edge of his cloak.

At that moment, she felt that her illness had ended. After so much suffering, she had received health.

A woman carefully reaches for the edge of Jesus' cloak in a crowd.
The woman came close to Jesus with hope.

Jesus stopped and asked who had touched him.

His disciples saw people pressing around him on every side. But Jesus knew that someone had come close in a special way.

The woman felt afraid. Still, she came before him and honestly explained what had happened.

Jesus listened to the woman with tenderness.

He did not want her to leave thinking she had stolen his help or that his cloak had magical powers.

He spoke to her like a beloved daughter. He told her that her faith had helped her and that she could go in peace.

Jesus speaks with a woman who has recovered while the crowd listens.
Jesus listened to the woman and encouraged her.

The woman had received more than a change she needed to hide. Jesus welcomed her and gave her words of peace.

This story reminds us that we can come to him without getting everyone's attention.

We can also listen to people who have suffered for a long time. A person still needs kindness when a difficulty lasts.

When someone tells us something important, we can pause and listen. Our attention can be a loving gift.

Jesus cares and helps, and we can share his kindness.

Retelling of Mark 5:25–34.
