A Conversation at the Well

Jesus was traveling through Samaria. Tired from the journey, he sat beside Jacob's well while his disciples went to buy food.

A woman came to draw water.

Her water jar rested beside the well.

Jesus asked her for a drink. She was surprised that he spoke with her. Jews and Samaritans often kept apart, but Jesus treated her with respect.

He told her about living water, a gift from God that gives life within us.

The woman first thought he meant water from the well. As they talked, she began to understand that he offered something greater.

Jesus spoke kindly with the woman at the well.
Jesus spoke kindly with the woman at the well.

Jesus knew her life, and she realized that he was no ordinary traveler. They spoke about worshiping God with a truthful heart.

When she mentioned the Messiah, Jesus told her that he was the One she was waiting for.

The woman left her jar and hurried into town. She invited the people to come and meet him.

Many came, listened, and believed. They asked Jesus to stay, and he spent two days with them.

Jesus' kindness crossed an old barrier. We can welcome people whose families or customs are different from ours and listen respectfully to their stories.
