Ten Were Helped, One Gave Thanks

Jesus was traveling to Jerusalem through the area between Samaria and Galilee. Near a village, ten men met him. They had a skin disease called leprosy.

They stayed some distance away, as people were told to do at that time. Together, they called to Jesus for compassion.

The ten men asked Jesus for help.

He saw them and told them to show themselves to the priests. The priests could recognize when someone had become well.

The men began to walk.

As they went, they were healed.

This story invites us to remember the person who helps us, as well as enjoying what we receive.

Saying thank you can be simple. We can look at the person and speak sincerely.

We can also care for something we borrow, help tidy after a meal, or make a thank-you drawing.

We do not need a big celebration to show gratitude.

Jesus did not take away the help he had given the other nine. His kindness had reached everyone.

But the man who returned could share a special joy with him. We can also pause and recognize the love we receive.

Jesus cares and helps, and we can share his kindness.

Retelling of Luke 17:11–19.
