Gifts to Care For
Jesus told a story about a master going on a journey. Before leaving, he called three servants and trusted them with his property.
He gave one five talents, another two, and another one. A talent in this story was a very large amount of money.
He gave different amounts according to what each could care for.
The servants received their master's money.

The servant with five went to work and earned five more. The servant with two earned two more.
But the servant with one dug a hole and hid the money in the ground.
When the master returned, he spoke with them.
The first two showed what they had done. Their master praised their faithfulness and invited them to share his joy.
The servants showed the results of their work.

The third explained that he had been afraid. He returned the money without using it.
The master did not approve. He took that talent and gave it to the servant who had ten.
Jesus taught us to use what we receive faithfully.
We have time, strength, belongings, and abilities that can help others.
Perhaps you can listen, sing, tidy up, or keep someone company. You do not have to do everything like another person.
The master praised both the servant with five and the one with two. What mattered was how they cared for what they had.
If beginning feels scary, we can ask for help and take a small step.
Using our abilities does not buy God's love. It is a way to thank him and serve others.
Jesus tells us a story, and his love stays with us.
